Not all Halloween festivities can be participated in by toddlers. That does not mean, however, that toddlers have to be completely uninvolved in the fun. They are sure to want to wear their own Halloween costume, even if they are not able to go trick-or-treating.
Remember that toddlers tend to be sensitive to a lot of the scary sights of Halloween. Although older kids love the thought of terrifying their neighbors with gruesome or spooky costumes, toddlers could be really frightened by seeing such things. That means that parents need to make sure that their toddlers are well cared for while participating in Halloween events.
Toddlers and very small children usually have some kind of movie, book, or cartoon character that is especially treasured to them. Dressing up as this character could make Halloween a definite source of fun for such toddlers. Looking cute dressed up as their favorite cartoon character will appeal to toddlers much more than scaring people with ghost or vampire costumes.
There are some characters that seem to be rather timeless favorites of many toddlers. For example, Mickey Mouse, Scooby Doo, Superman, Spiderman, and Batman will always be popular with young kids. Your toddler, though, might have a different character in mind, depending on what happens to be popular at the moment.
You need to be guided by which television, cartoon, movie or story book characters make your toddler's eyes light up with excitement. Discover the right character, and you are assured of success, even if the costume is mediocre.
Costumes are readily available to buy or rent for most of the leading cartoon and movie characters. The quality varies, from low cost plastic outfits through to expensive professionally detailed costumes. Especially with toddlers you need to be mindful of safety considerations, such as avoiding inflammable clothing, when making your costume choices.
Since candles are a common part of most Halloween decorations, being cautious when choosing a costume is in your best interests. You don't want to have to worry that your child might be in danger.
One word of warning about renting costumes for toddlers: If your child really loves the idea of dressing up as their favorite character, you might have an especially difficult time getting them to let you return the costume.
